1. A morning walk for coffee and bagels.
2. My family all came out today to spend time with us on the boat. It was just what the doctor ordered. Lately, my parents have been under a lot of stress as they have been trying to sell their house for the past two years. Today, we didn't talk about money. We didn't talk about work. We didn't talk about the future. We just focused on the moment, enjoyed one another's company, and appreciated the security in a loving, supportive, and connected family.
3. 95 calorie margaritas.

8.4.12
1. An afternoon playing on the water.
2. For the past three years, I have desperately been wanting to learn how to stand up paddle. I'm happy to say that FINALLY, my wish came true. Not only was I able to stand up, but I was able to STAY up.
3. Today, we were coming off the boat (yes, we spend our afternoons on a boat. Rough life. I know.), and Brian being the amazing guy that he is was carrying all of our things, and just as he was about to get onto the dock, his phone slipped. Before we knew it, it had sunk. To the bottom of the ocean. It was a heartbreaking loss as we watched all his photos, texts, and contacts go sinking down. But, Brian handled it like a pro. He simply turned to me and said, "Oh well, it's just a phone. Let's go to Verizon." He didn't panic, he wasn't angry, he was flustered. He was calm, realistic, and poised. I am so appreciative to be sharing my life with a man to can stay a float no matter what is thrown his way.

8.3.12
1. An afternoon shopping at Ikea.
2. An opportunity to cook dinner for my parents. They're always taking me out for wonderful meals, so it was nice to do something for them and enjoy the pleasure of a simple, casual, dinner. Together.
3. Working as a team.

8.2.12
1. A morning walk to Starbucks.
2. Lunch at Taco Asylum--this was one of my FAVORITE new finds. The tacos were creative, delicious, and had the perfect amount of heat.
3. A late night dinner at Pei Wei. Brian and I love trying new restaurants and have fun getting dolled up for an evening out. But sometimes, the best nights are those when we're in shorts, flip flops, and spend under $20. We had the best time and it makes me so appreciative that we can find just as much joy at a casual joint as we do at a five star restaurant.
8.1.12
1. Today, I fell in love. Again. This adorable puppy stole my heart. I would have given anything to bring her home with me, but sadly I had to leave her behind.
2. An afternoon on the couch. Doing. Nothing.
3. Tonight, I got to take Brian on a date. He is always going above and beyond to spoil me, so it was nice to take him out for a change. We went to Roy's for dinner followed by an evening at the Pageant of the Masters. It was a wonderful evening and I'm so thankful to be able to appreciate a truly fantastic meal and the beauty of art.
7.31.12
1. A surprise gift from my love...a gorgeous Kate Spade bangle. Boy, does he know what a girl likes!
2. A new lunch spot discovery. Pita Jungle opened in Newport Beach a couple months ago, and I was all too happy to find a new delicious restaurant, and reasonable too!
3. An afternoon wandering through life. We had no agenda today, and it was so fun to just let the day happen. After lunch, we drove with the top down along the coast and found ourselves on the beach in Laguna. We later ended the day with a fantastic dinner at Cucuina Alessa followed by an evening in the hot tub. Doesn't get much better!

1. Today, I got to spend the afternoon with my best friend of 29 years, Alissa. With both of our busy schedule's, it's hard to get quality time together. But, whether we spend an hour or ten hours together, it's always so much fun to hang out!
2. I felt very overwhelmed today. I don't know why. I have been spending lots of time with family and friends, but sometimes the worries of life makes me overlook all the pleasures. Just when I felt like I was going to break, I took a shower, drank a glass of water, and just sat. I'm appreciative that when things get too stressful, I can get reconnected to my love for life through simplicity, and can do so quickly.
3. Brian came to visit tonight...yay! We've only been apart for 3 days, but considering we have the great fortune to spend each day together, it's been 3 days too many!

1. I'm house sitting in Newport right now and am so appreciative to be enjoying an amazing home, a fabulous boat, and the amazing sunshine.
2. Spending the afternoon with my sister--it's so nice to get time together to catch up and enjoy sister time...love you YaYa!
3. Korean BBQ--dol sot bim bim bap makes me proud to be half Korean!
7.28.12
1. Breakfast with a great friend.
2. Spent the day with my mom and dad, lunching, shopping, and soaking up the sun.
3. Tonight, I saw the Katy Perry movie with my mom. Although I can't say I'm her biggest fan, I was reminded that dreams are worth dreaming, passions are meant to be pursued, and creativity is crucial to living.

7.27.12
1. A long, but relaxing train ride down to Southern California.
2. Grabbing sushi with my mom.
3. The Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics! Coming from a die-hard Olympic family, it's always fun to gather around the TV, ooh'ing and ah'ing over all the different athletes, outfits, and amazing performances. The Queen's corgi's stole the show by far!
7.26.12
1. A relaxing afternoon filled with popcorn, Disney movies, and cuddle time. Babysitting is by far the best job!
2. A great date night with Brian at our favorite Japanese restaurant. This was our farewell dinner as we prepare for a week of distance, so I was happy to spend the evening with my favorite person in the world!
3. Frozen yogurt after 30 days of dairy free living--oh, how I missed you creamy goodness!

1. Spent the afternoon at the pool today with the two girls I've been babysitting this summer. It was fun to play like a kid again, and reconnect with the simplicity of life. Nothing beats a good game of Marco Polo!
2. My favorite BBQ chicken salad from Union Ale!
3. A great evening with good friends. We started dinner at 7:30pm, and before we knew it, it was close to midnight. It was so fun to laugh, share stories, drink beer, and just relax!

37 Days
I have not blogged in 37 days. Somewhere between ending the quarter and starting my summer vacation, I just stopped. I don't know what happened to my blog this past month, but I am appreciative for what has happened to my life. I have not blogged in 37 days. But, I have not stopped appreciating every moment. It is easy to let life happen. It is hard to always appreciate it. Today, I vow to get back. To get back to the project, to get back to blogging, and to get back to appreciating, publicly.
Over the past 37 days, I have been fortunate to experience so many things in which I am extremely appreciative for. Here are some photos to capture the highlights:
Love.
Summer morning breakfasts
Zip lining...thank god we survived!
The view from our room in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica
Bowling on Father's Day
Watching fireworks on the 4th at SB West Beach
Drake Winery....love!
Inspiration
The chance to babysit and spend my afternoons being silly, playful, and getting my hair did...by a 7 year old.
Brian's baby photos
An afternoon at the OC Fair!

6.17.12
1. Today is Father's Day and I am lucky enough to be celebrating one of the best. My dad is far more than a dad. He is a hero. He is a motivator. He is an inspiration. He is a model. He is a source of support. He is kind. He is loving. He is compassionate. He is forgiving. He is generous. He believes. He lives. He creates change. He never gives up. My dad is my friend. One of my best friends. My dad has been at the heart of who I am each day and everything I am, I owe to my dad. I am proud to be his daughter and although everyday should be Father's Day, I'm thankful to be celebrating this day to the fullest.
2. My first strike in bowling....done grandma style.
3. My dad and I were walking on Rodeo Drive today pursuing all of the amazing cars featured in the Brittish car show. Amongst all the metal and heavy machinery, we decided to take a break from the scorching heat and wandered our way into the Dolce & Gabana store. Immediately, he spotted a gorgeous shirt featuring the one and only Elvis. Although I already had his gifts wrapped and ready to go, I decided to make an additional impromptu purchase. He was so excited and I was so happy to be able to do something like this for him. After all, he's given me 29 years of impromptu love and kindness.

1. The OFFICIAL last day of the quarter! I love being in school, I love being a student, and I love doing what I do. But never have I been more excited for something to end (school) and something new to begin (summer).
2. The opportunity to babysit two adorable kids. It was fun to chat with them, play a pick-up game of basketball, and watch some movies together. No matter how old I get, babysitting never gets old.
3. South Coast Deli for what I like to call--luncher (lunch + dinner).

6.13.12
1. A great conversation with Brian over lunch today. Brian is an incredibly humble and kind person. He is one of the best listeners that I've ever met. He is calm, he is reasonable, and he is incredibly strong. Usually, I am the one doing all the talking and he's the one doing all the listening. But, today--I got to listen. It was nice to share in some of Brian's strength with him today, and I'm appreciative to have been able to give him (even if just a teeny tiny bit) what he gives me each day, everyday.
2. Yoga. I'm not the biggest yoga fan, but thanks to Groupon, I got to take a class today at Yasa Yoga with my dear friend Jay, and I have to say...it was wonderful! My body feels relaxed, centered, and energized.
3. Jay came over for dinner tonight. With the craziness of our schedule, we sometimes only get to see each other in passing, so it was a real treat to get to sit down and enjoy each other's company dining Al Fresco style.

6.12.12
1. A great morning spin class to kick off the day.
2. The chance to be home. I used to be a person that loved being on the move. From morning to night, I would go. Go. Go. Now, I have so much appreciation for the days when I just get to be home.
3. My goal for this summer: organize my office and closets. I'm happy to say that one day into summer, and my two projects are now: COMPLETE! (Photos to come shortly)

6.11.12
1. A productive day finishing up need-to-do paperwork in the clinic.
2. Coming home at 5pm. Now that school is almost over, I was able to come home at a somewhat normal hour, and it was such a wonderful treat.
3. A great dinner followed by a beautiful evening walk to the Mission....I could get used to this whole coming home at 5pm thing.

6.10.12
1. I got a new summer job today....hooray!
2. A great dinner of my mom's homemade special spaghetti bolognese with a Chelsea kinda twist ;)
3. As of August, Brian and I are officially moving in together! We are beyond excited to start this new chapter in our lives together, and in anticipation of his upcoming move, we took a trip to Target to get some new decorations. I've lived on my own for the past eight years, and I've gotten quite....well, settled (to stay the least). Welcoming Brian into my home is one of the best decisions I've ever made. It was so fun to pick out furniture, help him build it, and re-decorate....all while building a home (well, life) together.
6.9.12
1. A productive day starting at 6:30am. I was able to complete a 30-page stats paper and knowing that it's finished is the greatest greatest feeling. This was a very daunting assignment for me, so I'm so appreciative to be done with it!
2. A little study break spent pursuing Cost Plus for new home furnishings.
3. An amazing dinner at Olio Pizzeria! Brian had never been before, so not only was it a huge treat to finish the week off with an amazing meal, but it was fun to show him a new place. The pizza carbonara was hands down one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life.
6.8.12
1. A new job!
2. The chance to babysit for two very adorably sweet kids (ages 9 and 11). They were filled with spirit, curiosity, and energy. I forgot how much I love babysitting and how fun it was to relive my teenage babysitting days.
3. A pick-up game of basketball. Given the craziness of life as an adult, it was so fun to just get outside and PLAY!

6.7.12
1. The ability to cry. I am generally a very happy and optimistic person, but sometimes life wares you down. I am thankful that I can have a good cry, engage in a warm hug, and recenter my spirit so that I can take on the day and reenergize.
2. A delicious Japanese dinner at our favorite Kyoto.
3. Family who loves me, supports me, and is there for me--NO MATTER WHAT!

6.6.12
1. HAPPY 35TH BIRTHDAY TO MY BIG SISTER. She has been the absolute best sister in the world. She's helped to guide me and shape me into the person I am today. She has taught me more than I know and has served as a tremendous role model. She has set the bar high and through each stage of my life, I've always wanted to be just like her.
No other 5-year old could rock a mini pink and white stripe dress like Victoria can! Forget carrying around a chihuahua in your purse, the newest accessory for Summer: a baby in an inner tube.
2. A delicious scone compliments of one of my professors. It was a kind and gracious act and a great treat to help get through a 3-hour lecture!
3. An absolutely beautiful Santa Barbara day! Summer IS HERE!
6.5.12
1. I am blessed. Plain and simple, I am blessed beyond standard. Yes, some of it is a result of my own doing, but most of it is equated to pure and absolute luck. Four years ago, I was standing in front of hundreds of elementary school students in Tanzania, East Africa. The conditions of the school were grim. There were no floors, no running water, and roofs that could cave it as a result of a simple rainfall. But, the kids were smiling. Not only were they smiling, but they were beaming. In that moment, I came to a realization:
The only way for me to explain and accept all of the incredible things that have happened in my life, is for me to utilize the love, support, opportunity, and education that I have been fortunate enough to receive and pay it forward to help the greater good. I wanted to help others. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to change a life.
Today, I paid it forward. I helped another person. I made a difference. And hopefully, I helped to change a life.
2. I am appreciative for the support of others. In an intensive PhD program, it is easy to focus on challenges. It's easy to complain about professors. It's easy to ridicule others for shortcomings. It's easy to want more. But, today, when things were beyond difficult, everyone came together to help, support, guide, and care. Today, I realized that this program is far beyond research, clinical work, coursework, writing a dissertation, or obtaining an internship. Rather, it is about working together, leaning on each other, learning from one another, and appreciating the opportunity to make a difference.
3. Today was a difficult day. I didn't get to eat, I didn't get to check my phone, I didn't get to look at emails. I was nonstop for 11-hours without even a sip of water. But throughout the emotion, throughout the fear, throughout the intensity....I thought about Brian. Through each moment, he was on my mind. I knew that no matter how difficult the day would be, or how things would turn out, he would be there. He would be there to hug me. To listen to me. To lie with me. There is no greater gift than having a partner to walk through life with and knowing that no matter what a day may bring, that we have each other.

6.4.12
1. So far, I've been going nonstop for the past 16 hours with my only break being right now to sit and write this post. Amidst all of the work, stress, exhaustion, and worry, I'm thankful that I have a place to sit and reflect on all the wonderful things in my life. I'm busy, tired, and ready for a break--but, each day, I get to do what I love, help the people around me, and live true to my passion and commitment to changing the world.
2. An awesome potluck to celebrate the end of one of my classes today. Students went all out and it was fun to munch on so many great goodies. Makes lecture a heck of a lot more entertaining :)
3. I am surrounded by tremendous support. I have had some incredibly tough client cases lately, ones that have hit me to the core, but I'm embraced by so much love, encouragement, and wisdom that I am thankful to have an army of support in my corner.

1. A productive day of work.
2. I woke up super early this morning and got to watch an entire movie from beginning to end (without falling asleep!) which was a huge treat. I forgot how much I enjoy movie time.
3. A great homemade pizza: garlic and herb crust with pesto, chicken sausage, mozzarella, arugula, tomato and mozzarella. Topped off with a great salad!

1. An awesome day at Zoo Brew with our great friends Katie & Ryan. It was such a fun day!
2. Zoo Brew followed by a fun dinner at Sushi Terri.
3. I am appreciative for the new colored pants trend. Although I fear that in 5 years I will look back on these photos and say...what was I thinking?! Next color to purchase: ORANGE!

6.1.12
1. I cannot believe it's JUNE!!! Where has the time go?!? I'm so appreciative for the start of summer and a wonderful chance to relax, play, soak up the sun, and reconnect with lots of family and friends.
2. A 20-minute nap on the couch. This NEVER NEVER NEVER happens, so this was a big treat!
3. Since I enjoyed my 20-minute nap so much, I followed it up with another hour of snoozing on the couch while B watched reruns of 24 and as if that weren't enough, I decided to top it off with 10 hours of blissful sleep. Tired much?

1. A quiet day spent reflecting, thinking, and appreciating.
2. In anticipation of our late evening working in the clinic, I made this recipe in advance so that we would have a tasty dinner to come home to, and after a long and draining day, it was tasty indeed!
3. The opportunity to make good quality meals, live in a beautiful home, and sleep in a bed that engulfs all the woes of the day and leaves me with pure comfort and happiness.

1. I had the opportunity to give a guest lecture today, which was a really fun thing to do. Although, 30 minutes before my presentation, a huge bout of nausea set in. Not sure what's up with my stomach these days, but it's not pretty. So, I'm appreciative for not throwing up all over the podium.
2. Today, I found out that a dear dear dear family friend passed away. After six years of battling aggressive brain cancer, we lost an incredible man, husband, father, and friend. Mike was one of the kindest people I've ever known and I always loved our time with the entire Nakanishi family. My heart goes out to his wife of 40+ years, his four children, and three grandchildren. I'm appreciative for knowing such an inspiring and gentle man for the past 25 years of my life.
Pictured above: A picture of Mike in Hawaii in 2004.
3. A boyfriend who still wants to cuddle and kiss me even though I was sick to my stomach and looked like hell....pure hell.

1. Perspective--sometimes the easiest way to feel better about a situation is to take a step back, take a deep breath, and take another look.
2. A long, but productive evening!
3. After a very indulgent (and wonderfully so!) weekend, I'm thankful to be getting back into my workout routine tomorrow morning!

1. Had a chance to catch up with an old friend today who I haven't seen in almost 2 years! It was great to see her smiling face and hear about all the wonderful work she is doing as a pediatric intensive care nurse @ the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital.
2. The best chips I've ever had....although I probably ate enough to last a lifetime.
3. Today, Brian and I were driving back from Orange County to Santa Barbara. We had a very important talk, and one that I'm extremely appreciative for. Brian has an amazing way of validating my feelings and making me feel heard, while always helping me to understand an alternative point of view (hey, maybe he should be a therapist ;) ). But, in all seriousness, I am so thankful to have a man in my life who respects me, appreciates me, but also inspires me to be better. Although I have been surrounded by so much love my entire life, I have often been left with my own thoughts. Brian gives me the opportunity to not only share my feelings, but he empowers me to be heard. I am so appreciative to be building a life with him, together, and am forever thankful for everything he has added to my heart.

1. Sleeping in until 8:00am!
2. A delicious homemade breakfast by my incredibly cute dad (egg whites, spinach, and ricotta with fresh strawberries and whole wheat toast). My dad has MANY talents, but cooking is not one of them, so this was a real treat!
3. An awesome lunch at Le Pain Quotidien and a fantastic dinner at Pizzeria Mozza. It was great to celebrate both my mom and sister's birthday and dine over some truly wonderful meals.
(Pictured above: On our way to dinner to celebrate Victoria's 35th birthday!)

1. An awesome breakfast with friends Alissa and Aaron at Maxwell's in Venice. We dined on awesome omelet's and had a great time chatting and catching up. But, the best part was a surprise bottle of champagne and an offer that I am honored to accept: to be Alissa's bridesmaid on her upcoming wedding on December 31, 2012.
2. Today was a big treat. Brian and I headed down to Orange County to spend the weekend with my family, but before heading home, we stopped for lunch with some of Brian's best friends from college. I always love hanging out with Brian and his friends, because they help to bring out the absolute best in him. Although I've only recently gotten to know them, knowing how important they are to Brian and how much they love him, makes me love them all too!
3. A beautiful home to visit and loving parents waiting to greet us at the door. There's no place like home!

1. An afternoon of shopping and walking around in the beautiful sun.
2. One of the best burritos I've ever had--halibut, shrimp, guacamole, and salsa. YUM!!
3. In bed by 9:00pm--I could get used to this!

1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!! Can you believe this woman is 64?? My parents are currently in La Jolla celebrating my mom's special day and I surprised her with a bouquet of flowers (called, 'Chelsea Gardens,' only fitting, right?!) while she and my dad were having dinner. Look how happy she is!! I'm so appreciative for this incredible woman who I get to call my teacher, my inspiration, my comedian, my best friend, and my mother.
2. A day to clean and organize. I rarely get a day to run errands, clean the house, catch up on emails, blah blah blah. So, it was great to get on top of the to do list and create a home that is warm, inviting, and clean :) Oh, and a few candle purchases today didn't hurt either!
3. A genuine conversation. Tonight, I am so appreciative to a woman who took extra time out of her evening to listen, to support, and to join with me. Thank you Megan for being my clinical rock and for teaching me what this complex world of therapy is truly about.

1. The best gyoza I have ever had. I think I could eat 938,572 of these, and still want more.
2. Today, Brian and I co-facilitated the fourth session of a positive psychology therapy group. It has been such an amazing experience and a great opportunity to learn from some of our incredible group members. Today's topic: gratitude.
Being motivated by all of the appreciation in the room, I decided to acknowledge someone who I am grateful for: A man who works at the frozen yogurt shop that I visit (all the time) on a regular basis. After I expressed my gratitude to him for his kindness, graciousness, and overall niceness, he said, "Thank you for the kind words, I truly appreciate it." I felt great, he felt great, and as a result...I'm almost certain I saw him give me an extra scoop of my granola topping :)
3. A morning coffee delivery from Brian. Today was a Venti kinda day.

1. I got a good reminder today of the type of student that I strive to be. It is easy to get distracted in class, but today I was reminded of how important it is to be present, focused, and respectful (this means no texting in class!).
2. Multigrain pita chips from TJ's--one of my favorite new snacks!
3. A night to get caught up on trashy reality TV and magazines. After a 12 hour day, it's great to sit back with an US Weekly and LaLa's Full Court Press playing in the background.

1. I struggle with intuition. I have a good one, but I never seem to trust it. I doubt it, push it away, ignore it, and flat out defy it. Doing so has gotten me into trouble, more than one time. And, each time, I promise that I'm going to pay it more attention. Until I don't. Today, I did, and it sure enough proved itself to be right. But, this time, before it was too late.
2. I ran home today for a quick 10-minue lunch. Although it was short, it was so nice to have a homemade lunch in the comfort of my own home, eat on a plate (not tupperware) and realize how lucky I am to afford such a luxury.
3. Tonight, I came across my New Year's resolutions for this year. I'm ashamed to admit that I'm not making as much progress as I would have hoped. I mean, it's almost June! It's time to pull it together! But, I'm appreciative for six more months to conquer this list. 2013, watch out. I'm coming for ya!
Here's to ambitions lists and six more months:

1. Morning coffee delivery.
2. A great hike up Romero Canyon in Montecito. Although it KICKED MY BUTT, I was appreciative of the intense climb....oh, and I'm thankful I didn't fall off the mountain!
3. Good communication. Although I preach this each day to my clients, it's sometimes hard to practice in my own life. Therefore, I'm thankful to B for teaching me how to communicate well and effectively. I'm appreciative to him for putting up with some of my neuroses and for always helping to think more deeply and reflectively.

1. A great Bar Method class to kick off the weekend.
2. A long overdue lunch with my friend Chelsea. It was so nice to catch up, laugh, and provide mutual support to one another. She is the best definition of friendship!
3. A leisurely dinner with Brian and Jay. We totally indulged tonight with wine, appetizers, pasta, lasagna, dessert and coffee. It was pure perfection!

1. I got great news today! It was something that I have been waiting to hear for weeks now, and it was a huge relief to be released of the burden that was my worry.
2. An awesome dinner at Ciellito tonight. We have been wanting to try it for months, and it definitely did not disappoint!
3. Today is our 5 month anniversary! After an awesome (yet, crazy hard) yoga class, I was SO excited to have a long overdue date with B to celebrate our special day and some other exciting news that came our way. When I finally finished getting ready, I came downstairs to not only greet the man who makes my heart grow larger each day, but I walked right into a gorgeous gold necklace that I have been longing for! The necklace is not only special because it was a gift from my man, but it signifies the number that is now so special to us both. Happy 18th!

1. Brian and I took a beautiful walk to Alice Keck Park this morning. With the craziness of our lives, especially this quarter, it's hard for us to carve out time for just "us." So, this was such a great mid-week treat and a nice way to spend time together, enjoy the beautiful weather, and get my body moving.
2. I finally finished a project at the clinic that I have been dreading: Case Notes. Those two words send feelings of dread up my spine, but I'm glad to have finally gotten them done (well, for this week at least).
3. I had another long day. And by long, I mean looong. After a tough session, a crisis report, and a lengthy talk with my supervisor, I was very appreciative of the awesome dinner that Brian had waiting for me. Thanks babe!

1. A productive morning. I am glad I started my day early with exercise because it made me feel rejuvenated and alive!
2. A long-overdue phone conversation with a dear friend.
3. An awesome dinner from Natural Cafe. A baked potato stuffed with chicken and veggies--yum! As a person who tries to eat healthy most meals, I tend to get somewhat bored by the monotony of vegetables, so this was a nice healthy alternative!

1. An awesome breakfast from Backyard Bowls--quinoa, cashew milk, strawberries, bananas, blueberries, raisins, cinnamon, and almonds. The absolute perfect way to start the day!
2. A clean home. There's nothing better than coming home to a tidy house filled with fresh flowers, candles, and the smell of a springtime breeze. I'm so lucky to live in such a great place!
3. Today, someone gave me an apology. It wasn't expected or even necessary, but it was very much appreciated.

5.14.12
1. I didn't want to do it. My alarm was going off and I knew I had to, but I didn't want to. I didn't want to wake up at 6:00am, I didn't want to get dressed, I didn't want to get in my car, and I certainly didn't want to do 40 push-ups. But, I did. So, I am appreciative of expensive workout classes that punish you when you don't show up.
2. A potential summer job opportunity that sounds promising. Travel + Kids=My dream job!
3. My body is feeling good! After months of illness and feelings of lethargy, I feel like my body is finally coming back to life, and it feels great! Perhaps it is because of my renewed sense of self, more rest, or increased water consumption. Whatever it is, I'm thankful for it! Oh, and I'm sure the 40 push-ups didn't hurt.

1. Today is Mother's Day, and I am appreciative to be celebrating one of the world's best! Although I am appreciative of my mom each day, I'm especially appreciative of the photo that we were able to take tonight. It is a very rare sight to see the four of us in one photo, let alone all in the same room together. Due to our crazy schedules and my grandma's ailing body, we usually visit her in shifts and are rarely able to all go out to eat together. But, today was special. This photo represents three distinct generations in our family and the beauty of bringing together two totally different cultures in order to create one.
Oh, and side note: My grandmother argued with our Japanese hibachi chef, yelling that he was Korean, although he assured her he was in fact Japanese. She must have liked him if she were trying to claim his as one of her own.
2. I had the honor of going wedding dress shopping today with my friend Alissa. She looked absolutely stunning in her soon-to-be gown, and I can't wait to ring in 2013 with the future Mr. and Mrs. Spiwak!
3. I got to visit my sister in LA today, in which she treated me to a Yogurtland. Then, I came home to McConnell's waiting for me in the freezer. Boy, do I have some amazing people in my life who know me (too) well!
5.12.12
1. Our friends Katie and Ryan came over for dinner tonight. It was so nice to spend the evening sharing stories, drinking wine, and just enjoying one another's company. I am so appreciative to have a home that allows me to entertain and channel my inner Martha Stewart.
2. A day of cleaning and cooking. Might sound strange, but I love a chance to tackle dust, reorganize small spaces, and fill the house with fresh scents of homemade culinary creations.
3. A berry and lemon curd tart--the perfect end to a perfect day.

1. Perusing around JCrew today in hopes of finding the perfect button down shirt.
2. Another unexpected free hour popped up today....what is happening people!?! I am getting spoiled!
3. I started Bar Method today, with my girlfriend Katie. It was a super intense and demanding workout, but my body feels great! My sister (aka my inspiration) has been doing Bar for years, and it helped to transform her body completely, and allowed her to do the splits....why yes, she is a Bar Method badass!

1. Shrimp and avocado salad from Silvergreens....mango vinaigrette? Heaven!
2. Second chances.
3. Today was a hard day. Probably one of the hardest in the long time. Each day, I try to live with hope, love, compassion, and happiness. But today, it was just too hard to do it. I came home after a loooonng day, and immediately crawled up onto Brian's lap for comfort. As I sat tightly in a ball with his arms around me, the tears started to fall, and they kept falling harder and harder. I didn't have a lot say, but I didn't need to. Brian knew exactly what to do....he hugged me, wiped my tears, and kissed my forehead (multiple times). I've always been an independent woman and prided myself on the fact that I was able to live alone for many years. But coming home today to a man whom I trust, adore, and can sit tightly in a ball on his lap and cry, makes me so appreciative to not be alone.

1. Three unexpected free hours in my day. This NEVER happens. And, I mean NEVER! I am always losing my hours, and rarely gain them, so I was VERY appreciative of this surprise gift.
2. A reminder that when you live a life of authentic happiness, hope outweighs fear.
3. A bright blue dress.

1. My friend Jay reminded me of how lucky we truly are, when she said, "I get to go to school at my top choice. I get to do what I love. I get to see the beach everyday. Not sure I have much to complain about." Thank you Jay for adding a very bright light to my day!
2. I finally got caught up on a project that I've been putting off for months. Although I'm writing this at 12:53am, it feels good to crawl into bed knowing that I was productive and effective.
3. Three beautiful gerber daisies sitting on my desk. The bright colors put a smile on my face and remind me that no matter how complicated or busy life can get, there's no simpler beauty than a flower.

1. A boyfriend who I can laugh with, cry with, dream with, goof around with, cook with, hike with, work with, and most importantly, a boyfriend who I am lucky enough to share my life with.
2. After a month of phone tag, I finally got a chance to connect with one of my best friends today. I'm going wedding dress shopping with her this Sunday in LA, and I can only imagine how stunning and beautiful she will look. I can hardly believe her big day is only 7 months away!
3. Fresh strawberries from the Farmer's Market--reminds me how lucky we are to live in California with such great summer produce!

1. A great morning hike to Rattlesnake Canyon. It was so fun to be out in nature, get my thighs burning, and start the day with a great workout.

1. Chelsea's 30th birthday party--Cinco de Mayo style! Happy birthday to one of my all time favorites. We've only known each other a short 8 months, but now that she's in my life, I couldn't imagine it any other way. It doesn't matter how many months we've known each other. What matters is the friendship and love that has grown throughout these months. Thank you Chelsea for teaching me how to live life with love, joy, and compassion. You are truly a gift to my heart and a blessing to my life!
2. My new gardening habit is blooming into an obsession!
3. A BEAUTIFUL Santa Barbara day!
5.4.12
1. Afternoon tea at the Biltmore Hotel with my mom. The scones and lemon curd were the best I've ever had....truly divine!
2. Dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Barbara: Zaytoon.
3. Sitting on the couch with Brian on one side, and my mom on the other.

1. My parents and I started the morning with a really great heart-to-heart talk. It was a topic that I dread talking about (ew, finances, yuck!), but it was a conversation that needed to be had. I feel a huge weight off my shoulders and a sense of financial freedom that I haven't felt in a long, long, long time. Again, no matter how old I get, mom and dad know best.
2. Took a beautiful beach walk with my dad today. It was so nice to spend some one-on-one time with him and get the oh so inspirational fatherly advice that I've been craving.
3. Laughing til you cry....multiple times.

1. My parents got into town tonight. I haven't seen them in almost a month, and in the Namkung family, a month might as well be a year. I am so excited to have them in Santa Barbara for the weekend. Not only to take them to new restaurants, walk the beach, and enjoy the beautiful weather, but because no matter how old I get, I always love being with my mom and dad!
2. Tonight, I co-facilitated the first session of a Positive Psychology Stress and Anxiety group--it was a HUGE hit and I left feeling energized, optimistic, and inspired. I was absolutely amazed by the openness of each member and their willingness to learn and to contribute to the group. Oh, and it didn't hurt that I have a bad-ass co-facilitator by my side ;)
3. Beef sukiyaki from Kyoto (my new Japanese obsession). I grew up on Japanese food, and ever since moving to Santa Barbara, it's been hard to find the good stuff...the real stuff...the authentic stuff. Kyoto (the SB version) is still faaaaar from the real deal, but it's the next best thing!

1. Happy birthday to one of my best, favorite, funniest, most caring and loving friends of all time. Alissa and I have celebrated 29 birthdays together, and whether we're celebrating at Gymboree, painting at Color Me Mine, bedazzling t-shirts, going in limo rides, or having a few (or 20) celebratory cocktails, each birthday has been special and memorable. Here's to a lifetime more of birthdays together, I love you Aliss!
2. I was in a really great mood today. I don't quite know what it was, or why it happened, but it just was. It's days like today that I like to think that my happiness wasn't necessarily caused by something, but that it was simply a result of living life authentically and with love.
3. I learned a hard lesson today. One that I wish I wasn't going through, even at the moment I am typing this. But, it taught me something important. It reminded me of who I am, what I stand for, what I believe in, and who I strive to be. As ashamed as I am to admit it, I can all too often lose sight of this in an effort to reach my end goal.
I sometimes get so caught up in what I'm working towards, that I forget to recognize why I am doing it in the first place. My passion can all too often get overshadowed by my responsibilities. However, today, in this moment, I want to be reminded. Reminded of why I left my stable, well-paying job behind. Reminded of why I work over 12 hours a day. Reminded of why I drive my immune system down to a pulp. Reminded of why my friends sometimes don't hear from me for months at a time, yet still love me.
My passion is not to be the best. It is not to succeed. It is not to make a ton of money. It is not to obtain fame or recognition. It is not to have multiple letters trailing my name.
It is to make a difference. It is to create change. It is to help a child smile when they can't do it on their own. It is to keep people alive. It is to keep people safe. It is to love. It is to be loved. It is to walk through life with sincerity and purpose.

1. Started the day off with an awesome morning workout in the comfort of my own home. My sister gave me a yoga DVD a couple years ago, and I never got around to doing it, until now. After just 20 minutes, my pores started sweating and my heart started opening. I've always been one for more high-impact sports, but this was the most energizing way to wake up, and I loved every minute!
2. Yoga was followed by an awesome vegetable salad. I was reminded today that salads are always considered the "good for you" entree of choice, but all too often, I tend to load my salads up with crap: cheese, beans, tortilla strips, and the list goes on... Today, I was able to get back to what the heart of a salad is: vegetables. Crispy, tasty, colorful vegetables. Plain and simple. Although nothing beats a BBQ chicken salad in my book, it was great reconnecting to the meaning of "good for you."
3. Re-read one of my favorite nutrition books today of all time. I like to go through it every few months to remind me of what it means to eat with purpose.
2. Yoga was followed by an awesome vegetable salad. I was reminded today that salads are always considered the "good for you" entree of choice, but all too often, I tend to load my salads up with crap: cheese, beans, tortilla strips, and the list goes on... 1. A awesome smoked salmon sandwich with a side of corn bread from Tupelo Junction.
2. A productive evening--homework, cooking, organizing, and spending time with B.
3. As of tomorrow morning, we are starting a sugar detox for at least one week. I'm not a huge sugar eater in general, but for some reason, I have been consuming it like it's nobody's business. So, to celebrate the end of our sugar binge and kick of the cleanse, it was only natural that we would have McConnell's in tribute. No sugar, here we come!

1. A beautiful spring day of wine tasting at Municipal and Oreana. It was so nice to not only see everyone out and about, but it was so nice to see everyone happy. Yea, it could have been the wine, but I have the feeling that the glorious sun had something to do with it too :)
2. An awesome 6 mile beach walk with Liz.
3. A night of carefree, silly, and uninhibited fun. A night of dart throwing, dancing (who needs a dance floor?) and laughing....lots of laughing. A night of our perfection.

4.27.12
1. After a beautiful beach walk this morning I was walking into buy my morning Starbucks and noticed a homeless man standing outside. He didn't ask me for money, he didn't have a sign, he was just standing observing the morning light. I asked him if I could buy him a coffee, and he kindly smiled with acceptance. It was a brief exchange and one that I don't need credit or recognition for. More importantly, I felt appreciative of the fact that with all the complexity of the world, the world is still simple enough that one person can buy a stranger a cup of coffee with only a smile as payment.
2. I have pink eye. YUCK! My eye is gooping with green mucus. DOUBLE YUCK! My eye is so red that it looks like I'm growing a tomato on my face. TRIPLE YUCK! But, through the puss, the redness, the eye drops, Urgent Care, and the throbbing lids, I have B by my side....puss and all.
3. My friend Liz arrives into town any minute. I love this girl more than words can describe, and I can't wait to spend the weekend with her!

1. Morning weightlifting.
2. Freshly baked cookies (to follow the workout of course!).
4.25.12
1. Today, I had a great session with a client. She has been trapped underneath fear for most of her life. Fear of being alone, fear of failing, fear of being judged, and fear of always being depressed. After spending 45min talking about her fear, I stopped her and asked her, "If I were to take all of your fear away for you, what do you really want from your life?" She responded with, "I want to be loved and I want to be happy." I can't think of anything better to want from life!
2. The perfect date night paired with an awesome bottle of wine, a blazing fire, homemade turkey meatballs and spaghetti, fresh bread, salad, and great company :)
3. Homemade rice pudding with almond milk, agave, and a dried berry blend...the best end to the day!

1. After three years of clinical training, five supervisors, 110+ units of coursework, countless workshops, conferences, and thousands of journal articles....today, I learned one of THE most important therapeutic lessons: Be a person.
2. Hershey kisses dropped off by my friend Chelsea this past weekend. My lips and my hips (yea right) thank you!
3. Mayor Corey Booker. I've always been a BIG fan of his, not just for his charismatic personality, but for the amazing work he is doing with underserved youth. He is a living representation of the power of one person.

1. When I was little, I was OBSESSED with Grease. Actually, this is an understatement. My poor VHS player worked overtime playing my video tape over and over and over again. Why did I love Grease so much? Two words: Danny Zuko. As I got older, my fondness for Danny Zuko grew into a true love for John Travolta. Right now, Wild Hogs is on, and although it's somewhat painful to watch, I can't turn off his face from my TV. I appreciate JT for teaching me how to disco, providing me the lyrics to "Summer Lovin," and making me believe in Phenomenon's. No matter how old I get (or he gets), I will always love JT for giving me one of the best movies of all time.
2. I had the great pleasure of hearing an amazing Native American woman speak today. She taught me the true meaning of culture, pride, family, and tradition. She reminded me that in order to live life and overcome challenges, we must, "Walk slow, drink lots of water, and take it easy." Such a simple concept, but one that is all too easy to forget!
3. Re-inspired creativity!

1. I have been craving a turkey burger for weeks. Finally made it to the Habit for dinner, and it was deeee-lish!
2. Tonight, my cohort at school reenacted "prom" in order to relive our glory (or dreadful for some) days of high school. It was fun to stand around the punch bowl, pose for pictures, and dance to old school KC&JoJo. Lucky for me, I not only got to put on a pretty dress and dance the night away, but I got to kiss my date under the disco ball.
3. I have a new hobby, and I am SO excited about it. I've always loved succulents, and I potted my first few today. I've always had anything but a green thumb, but lately, I'm feeling particularly fond of nature, and excited to get this thumb (even if it is black) into the ground!

1. After a very intense session, I treated myself to a great salad and a little retail therapy...talk therapy's good, but retail therapy is even better!
2. Had a reunion with my girls tonight! We haven't seen each other in over a month, so it was so great to laugh, catch up, and share stories from the last few weeks. I absolutely adore these amazing ladies!
3. My first glass of wine in over 3 weeks...this was definitely something to appreciate :)

4.17.12
1. I had a really great talk with my dad tonight. With how busy we both are, we don't get to do it often, but he always knows how to make me feel inspired and rejuvenated. We took some time to reflect on our lives, our special father-daughter relationship, and our hopes for the future. I've been feeling like total and complete crap lately with how sick I've been. My dad helped me to get re-centered and reminded me of what's most important in life. Thanks Dad!
2. Kale and chicken for dinner--starting to get back on a healthy kick, and it feels great!
3. And....followed up that "healthy" dinner with a homemade chocolate chip cookie. Yup, the perfect compliment to kale :)

3. Another great episode of SMASH :) As cheesy as it is, I'm sad there's only 3 episodes left!

1. I took the entire day off today to rest and recuperate. I truly cannot remember the last time I did this. Four naps and two movies later, I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to just lay on the couch, cuddle up, and enjoy doing nothing.
2. My friend Jay dropped off some great tea today to help soothe my sore throat and reduce my coughing--thanks Jay!

1. A great conversation with my mom today. No matter when I call my mom, she knows exactly how I'm doing just based on the way I say "hello." Today was one of those days when I needed my mom. No matter how old I get, I still need her. I've been sick for almost two weeks now, and it was starting to wear me down, both physically and emotionally. Not only did my mom give me a prescription to take care of myself, but her voice alone was just the medicine I needed!
2. I came home today to lots of surprise gifts from Brian (featured above)! After drooling over these adorable kitchen necessities at Anthropologie, he went back a few days later and got them all for me. I was so shocked and appreciative of his thoughtfulness and generosity. I am a lucky girl!
3. Yummy Thai soup to help me kick this nasty cold.

2. Rocked out to Adele's 21 album on my way to school today. No matter how many times I listen to this album, it gets me each time.
3. Got to come home today in between classes. This is a rare treat. Although it was filled with work, it was nice to get off campus for a bit and eat lunch on a real plate as opposed to out of tupperware.

1. My family and I had a WONDERFUL Easter brunch this morning at Tavern in LA. I had the most amazing brisket hash covered with two sunny side up eggs and horseradish cream. It was pure perfection! As if the meal and great company weren't enough, we topped it off with two big celebrity sightings--Conan O'Brien and Steven Spielberg!
2. I saw my sister and her new husband Tim today for the first time since their wedding. They looked beyond happy and relaxed. It was a true gift to witness the joy radiating from each of their faces. Married life is looking good on them!
3. I created a new soup recipe tonight--chicken sausage, whole wheat pasta shells, lentils, white beans, carrots, tomato, garlic, and onion, and topped with parmesan cheese shavings. All and all, it was a big success!

1. I sent B on an Easter egg hunt at 10:00pm tonight. He had 15minutes to find 10 eggs that I cleverly hid (or so I thought) throughout the house. Although he had fun, I think I was the one that got the real kick out of it, as I giggled with every moment of egg hiding.
2. Sat outside today to enjoy the beautiful weather while I worked. If I have to work on a Saturday, this was the way to do it!
3. Toy Story 2--loved it! Being sick has helped me to get caught up on movie time and channel my inner child :)

1. DISNEYLAND!!!
2. A close family friend was incredibly generous in allowing us to use her Club 33 membership for the day. We started our meal with a gorgeous seafood buffet and then dined on incredible entree's and almost 'too beautiful to eat' desserts. My cupcake was dusted in glitter....yes, glitter!
3. When I was 13, I used to dream of going to Disneyland with a boyfriend. I thought it would be the most romantic, special, and coolest thing to do. Well, at age 29, I'm happy to say that going to Disneyland with B was all that I imagined it would be. We cuddled on Pirate's, laughed in all the lines, and kissed under the fireworks. Sure enough, it was the most romantic, special and coolest thing we could do.
